A meditation on the general allure of decay, “Objects Also Die” is a visual and literary evocation of the recently demolished Los Angeles landmark Ambassador Hotel. Seen through the prism of Myron Hunt’s hotel during its abandoned and shuttered phase, the film examines the transience of human endeavor, the nature of memory and loss, and the importance of “letting objects die.”
The hotel was home to the infamous Cocoanut Grove nightclub, popular in the 1930s and ’40s. Here’s a clip from the club in 1931 that features Bing Crosby.
